Collaborative classes have two teachers in the classroom. One is an ELA teacher and the other is a special education teacher. In my case, I am certified by the state of Texas to teach elementary education (grades 1-6), special education (grades Pre-K - 21), Secondary English language arts (grades 8 - 12), most recently I just certified as an English as a Secong Language supplemental. So I have been the regular education teacher and the special education teacher at different times. Surprisingly, in 2012/2013 I taught English 1 as the regular education teacher and in 2014/2015 as the special education teacher in English 3 to many of the same students. I adore my students.
Specialized instruction is for students whose needs can not be meet in the regular education classroom. I modifiy the assignments to a level where the students can be successful.
I will be posting photos of my classroom and ideas on how to accommodate and modify instructions. I hope my information helps you to reach students in your classroom.
